Bobby Troup wrote his hit, (Get Your Kicks On) Route 66, in 1946 after driving the highway en route to California.

The well-known song was performed by artists such as Nat King Cole, Chuck Berry, Depeche Mode, John Mayer and The Rolling Stones.
